Abstract

The simple coherence between the stimulation signal and the EEG has been used for the objective responses detection (ORD) in signals during rhythmic stimulation. In this work, techniques for ORD and for investigating synchronism in the EEG dur ing intermittent photic stimulation (IPS) are presented. Such techniques have been based on the multiple and partial coherence (multi-variant extensions to simple coherence) between the stimu lation signal and the EEG. They were evaluated through Monte Carlo simulations and next applied to the EEG of normal subjects during IPS. The results from simulation showed that partial coherence removing the contribution of the stimulation signal is suitable for quantifying the inter-relationship of activities which are not synchronized with the stimulation. The results with EEG signals were found to be compatible with those from simulation.
